NOCAFF. Coffee, fully disclosed. The brief asked f NOCAFF. Coffee, fully disclosed.
The brief asked for a decaf coffee brand. Bold. Calm. Modern. Easygoing. Most decaf brands soften the message. They apologize for being decaf with words like smooth and gentle and any time of day. I wanted to do the opposite.
So I asked: what if the brand didn’t apologize at all? What if the packaging just told you exactly what was in it, like a lab specimen, a prescription bottle, a chemistry sample?
That’s where brutalism came in. Not as a style. As a method.
Strip the marketing. Strip the softeners. Let information be the design. The label became a spec sheet. The bottle became an Erlenmeyer flask. The voice became deadpan, factual, slightly funny.
The rest followed. Frosted glass. Ink black on paper. A single disruptive indigo. A giant numeric SKU code in the bottom right of every label, 001 / 002 / 003 / 004, like a part number rather than a flavor name.
The tagline arrived last: Coffee, fully disclosed. Once it landed, everything else snapped into place.
Bold without shouting. Calm without softening. Modern without minimalism. Easygoing without trying.
99.7% caffeine removed. The other 0.3% is just for show.
